1555 -- Germany: Religious Peace of Augsburg established, which keeps relative peace between various Christian groups for almost 60 years.
1845 -- US: The first mass strike of women workers for the 10-hour day took place when 5,000 women in the textile mills of Allegheny City & Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania walked off their jobs. The strike was unsuccessful, but paved the way for future strikes that eventually won American workers an 8-hour workday.
1904 -- Italy: Nationwide General Strike begins, protesting the government’s use of military troops as strikebreakers.
1986 -- Vietnam Veterans Duncan Murphy & Brian Willson join Charles Liteky & George Mizo in the Fast For Life, opposing US support of the Contras, who used terrorist tactics in Nicaragua.
1996 -- US: 6,000 rally & 1,033 are arrested near the Headwaters Grove in rural Carlotta, California, in a protest against the logging of one of the last large unlogged redwood stands in the world.
2001: US – Representative Barbara Lee (D-CA) casts only vote against allowing the President unlimited military action in response
to the 9/11 attacks.
